No time to dwell on the past. At least not the immediate past.

History

The series between Purdue and Nebraska is tied at 5-5. They have played each other every year since 2013. Before that, they had one game in 1958. As for the random information from the series that will probably sway my prediction

  • In home games, Purdue is 3-3 against Nebraska. This includes their first meeting in 1958 where Purdue won 28-0.
  • The last Purdue home game was in 2020 and Purdue lost that game 27-37.
  • In October games against Nebraska, Purdue is 2-3. In these games, except for a 55-point game in 2015, Purdue has not scored over 28 points.
  • The margin of victory in the last four Purdue home games in the series is as follows: 10, 4, 1, and 10.

Home and Away

Between 2019 and 2021, Nebraska is 4-11 in away games. Their last win in an away game (outside of their win at Rutgers this year) was in 2020 against Rutgers. Their last away win before that was in the same season against Purdue.

In these away games, Nebraska averaged 190.6 rushing yards per game and 245.4 passing yards per game.

In the same time span, in home games, Purdue is 8-9. In those games, they averaged 315.4 passing yards per game and 86.2 rushing yards per game.

Too Specific Stat

Between 2013 and 2021, in games before playing Purdue, Nebraska is 3-6. In the games against Purdue after those three wins, Nebraska is 3-0 against Purdue. In other words, when Nebraska wins the week before playing Purdue, they are undefeated against Purdue. This is relevant because Nebraska won against Rutgers last week.

However, there is the exception of the 1958 game where Nebraska lost to Purdue 0-28. In the previous week, Nebraska beat Penn State 14-7.

Another Too Specific Stat

Purdue is currently 4-2. If they beat Nebraska then they will be 5-2 through their first seven games this season. Purdue has not achieved this since the 2007 season where they won their first five games and lost the following two games.

Prediction

That “too specific” fact is spicy and I like spicy. A hot sauce for every occasion. However, Nebraska’s away record in the last three years against Purdue’s home record is mild and mild can lead to a correct prediction. So, Purdue wins. I think. Yes. They do.

I will probably scream internally for the next 12 days for ignoring that spice on my taste buds.
